[Electric Boats] Re: gear reduction transmissions

It may be cheaper to cut down your prop about 3/4. Just sayin. What is your typical prop RPM? Size and pitch? Is the motor overheating? Do you have a smaller prop you can try for a bit? If you don't have a tachometer I strongly suggest you install one. Cheap hall effect digital readout tachs are less than $20 on fleabay or amazon. Stick the supplied magnet on the shaft or coupling. Bolt a piece of aluminum or steel bar stock to something, having already bent and drilled it appropriately for the hall sensor. Run your wiring and ta dah. Pretty simple user upgrade. It is nice to REALLY know what your prop RPM is. Dont rely on your controller to tell you.

Look at McMaster-Carr for pulleys. I am sure you can come up with a pair that will give you the desired reduction. Or Grainger. I like McMaster.

I currently use an enclosed gearbox made by Baldor. I think I got it from electricmotorsports and it was a bit less than $450 as I recall. Here. I did your homework for you. http://www.electricmotorsport.com/ev-parts/power-transmission/cast-iron-gear-reducer-5-1-c-face.html This gearbox is available in 2:1 up to 10:1.
