[Electric Boats] Re: phasing into electric drive

Like you, I am trying to go cheap so I understand where u are coming from, but for more current to your motor, you really need a bigger controller. Even with a brush motor, two controllers in series or in parallel sounds kinda scary. Maybe it would work, but you would only be saving a couple hundred bucks if it did, and blowing a controller or both, if it didnt. I say get a controller that will handle the volts and current you want to run, then sell your small one on ebay or to a member here who can use it. FWIW I just got my new motors yesterday and my controller has shipped. I am chuffed! Yes, plural. Motors. They were so cheap I got a spare. I considered piggybacking the motor with the existing atomic 4 on my boat the way u did, but really didn't seem practical on my little Cal. Would have been cool, though. Are u using size B vee belts? How many belts? If just one, consider moving up to a double or triple belt setup. A lot of guys are using timing belts.
