For the average boater there are two aids that I know of, Pilot Charts of the oceans and Tidal Current Charts of coastal areas. In my sailboat-racing days I carried AND USED a set of tidal current charts of Tampa Bay; knowing where the currents were and what to expect proved an advantage.
