Re: [Electric Boats] Battery Box

Looking at the Nanni  hybrid battery box http://www.nannidiesel.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137&ltemid=67&lang=en it seems to protect the batteries well.
And I would imagine cooling of the electric motor would be less of a problem , also.
I wish I understood French.

Thanks for your post James.I take your point.
I have AGM batteries in my current boat , yes , I'm impressed.
But gee , they are bloody heavy.
I am thinking though of a traditional wooden boat spending its time in open waters fishing , perhaps with a leak here , a weep there , that will be at least damp in the bilge.
So (I believe) I need to design a box that will keep the batteries and connections dry , and ideally , if possible , as low as possible , but still have bilge drainage.
And batteries that aren't too heavy , and difficult to change over , when that time comes.
I thought if I could extract the air out of the (diesel) engine compartment it should be warmer and dryer , and discharge it out the top of the wheelhouse , it should do the trick.
Or is that not necessary ?.

Rob,

12 volt batteries have half the connections.

The whole system is dependent on each connection so less is more in this case.

It is worth the extra money in life expectancy and amp hours available over time to buy AGM batteries.

If I was to put a diesel hybrid setup in a 27 ft wooden boat , I'd like to site the batteries , say 8 6 volt as low as possible in the boat .
I believe a sealed box , with positive ventilation would be appropriate.
Any comment ?.
