[Electric Boats] Hydrogen question

Gents -

I am the Columbia 29 guy.  You have been very helpful.  I have an additional question:

Assuming that I go with the MARS (Motenergy, now) 0708 model, (it has brushes), and I also store my batteries in the same compartment that I will be taking the Atomic 4 out of, aren't I generating hydrogen gas in that enclosed engine compartment which has the potential to be ignited by the brushes on the commutator at start-up?

I know that with the gel type batteries this circumstance is pretty much eliminated, but the regular lead acid marine deep cycle batteries actually perform pretty well in this application, as long as I'm not creating a bomb...

Of course, there are other places on the boat where I can mount the batteries to be not in the same enclosure with the electric motor, but somehow that space down there where the motor will be is quite large enough to accommodate everything...batteries, botor, controller, charger. etc.
