With regard to the difference in HP ratings, slide 32 in the attached link shows some typical torque and power curves for electric vs gasoline.  Basically, electric can be tailored to produce maximum efficiency at cruise and that happens to be at a lower HP rating.   It's a complicated subject but for some, staring at the charts long enough can produce an Aha! moment.

p.s. this is a deck from a talk on I give each year at the Wooden Boat festival in PT to boost the electric boating cause.  It's not focused on our product but on the broader issue of electric boating.  Over the years I've seen the audience change from 4-5 guys interested in quick cheap re-powering, to last year's "standing room only" folks that were looking for the usability and experiential benefits of electric.  I think that it's a good time for electric powering.  I am always interested in improving this talk so I'm open to suggestions for improvement.
