Hi Scott.
Yes, your Hurth gearbox will work, but they are not known to be very efficient. Pretty much all of your other options (belt drive, small gearbox, chain drive) will be lighter and transmit more of your motor's power to the prop, resulting in more speed and greater range. Becuase the electric motor can be reveresed easily with any modern motor controller, you won't need the reverse feature in the Hurth either.
So it will work, but not as well as the other conversions that you see described here.
