Very nice website! But I stand by my recommendation. Range in no wind and flat water is one thing. Range in adverse conditions (e.g. Santa Ana's) quite another. (And I think your distance is a tad shorter)

That said, there's no reason (other than $$&weight) not to go ahead and put a big battery bank like your 22KWH in. With any luck there's a little wind and you've got nearly full batteries on arrival.

Still, for backup and given that you probably want/need a dinghy anyway, I think that's a good option.
