RE: [Electric Boats] Automotive style generators as motors?

What kind of generator is this?  A DC brush generator/motor or an “alternator”?

The answer to your question depends greatly on this.

Any more details also helps.

Subject: [Electric Boats] Automotive style generators as motors?

Any comments on the thought of using an old style 12 volt automotive (actually off an early series Atomic 4) generator as a motor?
I am not after a turnkey setup, just something that will run for maybe 15 minutes a day, to move a sailboat in and out of a mooring and for convenience while I learn to sail. I actually have two of these available.

Thanks for any responses,
John
