A few questions have come my way about the race which I should share here.
1. We set the course up so that a 4' draft boat could participate but any boat that draws 30" or more should pay good attention to the channel markers and have an accurate depth sounder onboard--Sarasota Bay has many shallow areas and getting a 25 mile course that looped back to the same location wasn't easy.
2. Sail boats are allowed but, and I don't believe I got this question, you can not unfurl your sails during the race. There is only one bridge that needs to be considered and it is at a turn around point on the course so if a boat can't get under the bridge we will ask that it perform a 540 degree turn before the bridge instead going under the bridge and doing a 180.
3. The race is scheduled for Friday April 16. I'm promised that the weather is ALMOST always nice that time of year but if bad weather does set in we have an alternative date of Sunday the 18th. Saturday is set aside for the boats to participate in the Small Craft Festival. One of the main reason for the location is to expose the general public to electric boats as we will be allowed to give demo rides at the festival and the area with it's many canals is a great place for electric boats.
Thanks for the interest--I hope a few of you can attend--if not this year then put it on next year's calendar.

> Hello everyone,
> There is info published on the new EBAA website concerning the Inaugural Cortez Electric Boat Marathon being run on Friday April 16 in Cortez Florida (near Tampa). Go to www.electricboats.
>
> A few basics: a 25 mile race for electric only boats--very similar in concept to the Wye Island race held each year in St. Michaels MD in October. There are three classes, single hull, mulit hull and extreme. We expect to have a good turn out for a first ever event. The website has a pdf file of the race course and I expect to have a downloadable entry form up in a couple days.
>
> Of course the other news here is the re-emergence of the EBAA website after being down for a few years. I will post another thread on this so please keep this thread didicated strictly to race questions and post suggestions on the new website itself on the other thread.
>
> I will be around most of the weekend and monitor the boards so any questions should be answered within a few hours--at least at first, so chime in! Best, Tom Hesselink
