RE: [Electric Boats] Re: Electric motor for 33' Sailboat

Attention Manufacturers, suppliers and vendors:

If you're going to promote a new product on this forum, please provide a link or links to more information or anything that confirms that your product is more than just an uncharacterized prototype.

Members on this and other lists have gotten stung by new manufactures who don't do the due diligence to provide specifications and independent test data that allow verification of claims.

In this case, we have a claim of a 5kw, 48v model being available, yet the company website does not indicate this product exists: http://www.advancedmarineelectricpropulsion.com/index_files/Page497.htm

Further, we still do not see the torque/speed/power/efficiency curves and other specs on their website for the only product listed: a 24v, 2kw motor.

While it's perfectly fine to not put such information on one's website, I advise extra caution to anyone choosing components where specifications aren't made easily and openly available.

None of this is to say that the product(s) that this or any other vendor provides for sale aren't dependable, reliable or suitable for our electric boating needs.

But red flags go up for me, as moderator of this list, when a new manufacturer in this field promotes product and hasn't provided links or other information that supports  verifying the claims in any way.

Welcome to Advanced Marine electric Propulsion, the direct drive solution. The 5kw 48v model has been testing out just fine, and is now available. Designed specifically for marine traction duty, sealed to 10' of water pressure, and no noisy gears or belts to stretch. It's cool running and maintenance-free. $3500 includes shipping and mounting hardware. References are available...

Be Well,

Arby
