Current electric boating systems can be built to be safe and reliable. Common sense during operation and user knowledge of the components should then be nothing more than that required of a rental vehicle. Unstable systems should be recognized before they "brown-out" by considering where heat will build up and what corrosion will break down. Maintaining functional connections is often the toughest thing to do, since they'll work fine up to the moment they melt or smoke. Inspect your shore power cord, plug and receptacle, often they're 30+ years old. Finally, un-plugging shore power hasn't changed with the advent of electric boating, it's why we follow safe routines anytime around the water.
