Re: [Electric Boats] Electric motor for 33' Sailboat

As Eric mentioned there are a lot of variables between different boats based on their specs. I installed an ASMO Marine Thoosa 9000 system bought from NGC Marine on my 30 foot 8 ton sailboat. I installed it 2008. I've been very happy with the purchase and the install was pretty much turn key. I did have someone with more fiberglass skills than I have come onboard  to do some rebuilding of the engine stringers because it was replacing V drive transmission setup. My unit it is equivelient of a 9HP.  Unfortuntely,  I was not been able to do extensive testing last year because my Zantrex battery meter display failed. But, that did not stop me from going on a 140 mile cruise. I am hoping to do more extensive testing next season. I have chronicled the installation starting here:
You might find it useful no matter what system you decide upon.

Hello,

Has anyone done a comparison of existing electric motor / controller packages in the 6-8hp equiv range? I am not very interested in re-inventing the wheel. I can find 4 packages available from;

Beckman electric – uses gearbox - 24 volt system $4,290.00 48 volt system $4,910.00 The motor / gearbox seems well thought out, but the web site and details are weak.

Electric Yacht - $3,995 motor only – 130lb system, $5495 – 260lb Excellent web site, motor seems to use belts, which is odd (can only find a pic in one of the video's)

Technipower / Solomon – ST 37 - $9,390 motor, $14,203 complete, very well proven system but seems too expensive unless efficiency is much better.

Thoosa 6000 6kW Drive System, 48V $7,007.00 motor, $9,000 complete. Looks new to the market,

If anyone has done an analysis, looking at efficiency, etc, or has any imput / suggestions I would be very interested.
