Re: [Electric Boats] Re: 48V ELECTRIC OUTBOARD

Well I paid $2000 for an electric outboard 5 years ago, when there where only four choices of Electric outboards Ray, ELCO, Slow trolling motors, and Torqeedo.  The RAY, ELCO, and Torqeedo had similar prices and the Torqeedo was much lighter then the others.  And the trolling motors where inefficient and normally 12 Volts, only.  So at the time It seem to me to be the best choice.  So for that $1500 extra I got 4 years of happy boating out of it.   Better then using a gas outboard... In my opinion.

As you could only buy a less expensive electric outboard for say the last year or so, I think I did alright.  Again If my Torqeedo went tits up right now, I would definitely have the Hangkia high on my list as a replacement.  Though I would probably build a prismatic cell battery instead of using a e-bike battery to power it.

The ePropulsion outboard would also be on that list.

Dear James
I think that $1500 to tip a DHL driver for your outboard  is too much!!!!…. And for cultural consideration, I will rather spend this money on a trip to Tokyo rather than Berlin. Tokyo has a much higher standard in language, writing, food, fashion, technology, architecture…

Dear John

Sure, your experimentation will be a great post on this forum testing the two outboards in similar conditions. After 15 years of Yamaha 3hp two-stroke and one year of Hangkai 1000w used in similar conditions, I can definitively write that the Hangkai is a little more responsive and pushier in the chop, the acceleration from zero is much better, the top speed maybe a little higher.

It could be equivalent to a 4hp petrol.
