Yeah rewinding a motor would be a option. I live in Germany(not USA) i just took a quick search there are some companys that rewind motors prices seem to depend on the winding.
Well still with the prices of the rewinding and the controller it again comes in the range of the a BLDC with Controller:
Rewinding 500-700€ + SEVCON GEN4 800€ =1300-1500€ (motor prices not included but thats probalby negligible as mentioned)
Thunderstruck 10KW BLDC + Controller:
2100€
And with the kit you can be sure everything works.
