[Electric Boats] Trolling Motor Question

So, at the advice of Denny, I went to the local hobby shop in search of props for my motorguide 34.  I've had the motor about 9 years now, and it pushes my CP 16 (~1200lb displacement) sailboat at about 3.4 knots on the GPS.  I wouldn't mind a bit more speed, as I think the limit is the pitch of the prop.

I picked up a couple 3-blade 10X6 props for $2 each.  They are glassed filled nylon and well balanced, however, they are tractor, not pusher props.

The motor is a stepped setup, 5 forward, 2 reverse.

THE QUESTION #1

Will I harm anything if I just reverse the motor leads?  It's not electronic, so my gut says it will just rotate in the other direction.  It was on $89 at the time, and I can replace it for about the same if I do cook it, but I'd rather not.  It's served me well.

QUESTION #2

Anyone try a trolling motor in tractor mode?  That's what a lot of big ships do, any disadvantages for small motors?  If that's the case, I just need to rotate the head 180 degrees.

So what do you all think?
