[Electric Boats] Re:Jet Boat conversion

Well a little life! and thank's Dan for your input! Most I get is can't be done. Watch me!
The more inputs I get , good or bad , the more knowledge-- I love it!

Facts I've found in my investigation of converting a 16' Sea Ray f16  to elec--(my goal.) It's miller time , so this may be long (warning)

As stated in my opening call for help and has anyone done this.

1.The Merc/force 90 and 120 hp 2 cycles are pretty bad, salt water doesn't help, can be rebuilt for $1,000 to $3000-- But how long would it last?  I had thought about a MC engine--could do but the  exhaust problem set me free on that.

2. EV  cars now have alot of DIY people , and TELSA (wow) plus the hybrids--won't go there . I dont need  self gen option for brakes.
3. OK for the displacement people ----Ever seen how quick a jet ski , or jet boat gets on plane.
The DYI people are usilg Golf cart of fork lift electric motors and are very happy!

4.Ou U tube   are  Jet skis converted to elec--cool

5.OK   the prop range on my boat is 4800 to 5300 rpm.

6. The motor at 5-7000(redline) worked it !

7. So my Question was --Has any one attempted this, and  any one know of a elec motor that will turn this rpm without going exotic to ac,  3 phase etc. Pref series  dc, one way, don't need a 2 direction motor. Seems to work Great for cars.

8 Not looking to go to Bahamas.  When you think about it, if you go out boating--I have to contend with Manatee zones, 5mph, Intracoastal etc . and usually go clamming or fishing, so a day may consist of  little full speed in a 4-5 hr period an average.

9. FYI--suggested get a displacement hull and go slow! I have a 25' Seaward, with a 9 hp yanmar diesel--that's slow enough for me and has 125 mi. range on 6 gals diesel.Even more with sails!!

10. I got the jet for getting the dog into the islands, maybe carrying a tent , STABILITY, and to go shopping for suplies while anchored out. I hate rubber boat's and a wet ass etc. (present). Try dropping a 45 pound dog into a rubber boat--better try and get the dog back into a 25' sailboat.

11. Last, amen, --  ELCO has done it for years, and the Queen Mary and alot of new jobs run on elec. with thru hull drives for direction-- SO --help me with any more inputs
Thanks Dan for a positive input !

Ernie
