Hi Ernie
I think you would be very disappointed in the performance of a 16 foot
jet boat converted to electric drive. I have owned a number of jet
boats; I built my first one in 1963 using Hamilton machinery and a
converted car engine. These are planing boats which generally do not
perform well at low speeds. Battery weight will limit you to
displacement speeds. The hull is the wrong shape for displacement
speed and the jet is a small diameter, high pressure thrust device.
The jet performs very well once the speeds get up but relatively
poorly at slow speeds. You will probably find it will wander like
Brown's cows at the slow speeds you will be limited to, having no
rudder and being steered by deflection of the jet stream.
I strongly suggest you find a vessel designed to travel slowly with
heavy displacement. Vessels such as this perform best when driven
with a large diameter, slow turning propellor.
I am in the process of building a design from http://www.selway-
which will be electric powered.
Sincerely
