I need to find the webpage but there is a couple who crossed atlantic with electric propulsion sailboat and when their solar failed, the regen from the motor was enough and the only thing that kept their electronics and fridge powered. So at least one example of regen being valuable.
I think they were generating about 500 to 800 watts with a 0.5kt loss in speed while going about 6 knots during the crossing.
