Hey, I have a couple of questions about your setup since we have just done something similar. Our conversion was on a 1989 Pacific Seacraft 34 with a ~13,500 pound displacement. We installed the thunderstruck 10kW kit except with a water cooled version of the motor and a 3:1 reduction instead of 2:1.
Performance is pretty good, we can make the prop spin at 0.6 amps which I guess means friction in the system is not too bad. At 25 amps we can do about 3.2 knots in flat water. At 50 amps, something like 4 to 4.2 knots and at a vibrating 130 amps, 5.5 knots. I have not taken it higher than that, not sure that it will actually go higher than that with our 3:1 reduction as I think the motor is hitting max rpm for the 48V supply.
Speaking of vibration, do you get any vibration at around 60 amps and above? I spent quite a bit of time aligning our shaft with the chain coupler thing thunderstruck uses but there is still a tiny bit of wobble there. It is supposed to allow for some misalignment and I think I am within a fraction of a degree of true. Could be our cutlass bearing though....hard to pinpoint.
What about belt noise? I was thinking of trying a different tooth profile to reduce the high pitched whine that all timing belts seem to have...or make a sound damping cover for the thunderstruck reduction.
As for batteries, we are currently using 8 Lifeline GPL-31XT 125AH batteries for 48V at 250AH, but really only allows for about 7kWh usable. I am anxiously waiting for the Trojan Trillium LFP batteries to become available as they are half the weight of the Lifeline, waterproof, and more usable capacity (and 4 year warranty).
