We are seeing some very nice advantages in the TPPL batteries for our marine traction application. NorthStar does not provide deep discharge numbers as other battery manufacturers but the technology appears to be more advance than the traditional AGM battery. One of the advantages and disadvantages of the TPPL is the faster charge capability. This is a two edge sword. It can be charged faster but it needs a bigger charger and there are few chargers at reasonable prices that can meet their suggested charge rate. Once you get over 14kWh, you should consider multiple chargers to get to the charging power that they recommend. Also the common 30a dock power may limit your ability to do fast charging.
We are also looking at the nano carbon TPPL battery as very interesting improvement in that it can handle the PSOC more effectively and avoid the sulfation problems of traditional AGMs.
