Re: [Electric Boats] Bellmarine Ecodrive

Hi Abdullah,

Unfortunately that system, HybridMaster, is no longer being produced. The link I put in the last reply for some reason takes you to an older version of the site. If you go up to the right corner and click on the UK flag it should take you to the newest site. You can then click on Assortment to see what is currently offered. The thing with the HybridMaster was it was very difficult to make work well as we understand. A few other companies have tried the same thing with the smaller hp diesels and it hasn't seemed to work out.

Transfluid, who now owns BellMarine, does have an electric hybrid motor that couples to a diesel engine, but you have to have at least a 100hp engine. The only manufacturer that is currently doing the parallel hybrid is Beta working with Hybrid Marine in the UK. http://hybrid-marine.co.uk/5.html

Things keep changing and new designs are always coming out. There may be advances in the parallel hybrid for smaller diesel engines. Until then, look at Hybrid Marine and Beta. I have no idea of the cost on those however.

Hey Sally

In fear of derailing the thread... the hybridmaster system they have? You know the cost of it? Looking at repowering with a 50hp beta marine diesel.. wouldnt mind having that hybrid as a back up drive.

Or could I get it now and switch it between engines? because repowering is a couple years out and playing with hybrid could be nice. Im a fan of hybrid over pure electric and/or diesel.

Stephen,

We have been working with BellMarine here in the US for over 4 years now. The product is very well designed and would be a good choice for your boat. If you haven't been to their direct website, it is:

Hi,

I have 18' open sailing boat. I am looking to replace existing 6HP blaxland 2-stoke with electric propulsion. Based on what i have read on this email group I think a 2-3kw engine will be ideal. In Australia I have not found found many local options for electric engines. One option I have found is Bell Marine engine from a local Sydney distributor. Does anybody have any experience with this direct drive engine? Or if you know of alternatives in the Australian market I would love to hear about them.

Regards,
Stephen
