[Electric Boats] Re: Electric Ericson 27 Long Beach California

Hi Eric,
I hear what your saying about the weight factor. Those batteries are heavy! Price was my concern over weight so we will see if I made a bad call or not. Once I get some time to get some controlled testing done I will add the numbers to this sites Database. I need to get a thru-hull put in for my knot meter. I am using a new knot meter with an old thru-hull transducer from a different brand of knot meter. I think it may be reading high and it cuts out alot as well. I want the numbers to be accurate for the data base.
I usually stop in at two harbors 2 or 3 times in the Summer Eric,
I would love to meet up. Keep an eye out for "Slip'd Away"!

Getting accurate watts to knots is very helpful for others that are considering converting and helpful to you by providing a baseline to monitor your boat's health.

That was one of the reasons that I chose LiFePO4 batteries, 8kWH is 200 pounds. Plus there is no place in my boat where I could fit four 8D or ever four 4D batteries.

My 30' ketch with 25' LWL has never touched 6.5kts in any conditions and can barely hit 6kts under power (5.5kts was top speed with the Yanmar diesel). I look forward to hearing your performance figures under controlled conditions.

We had to build a new battery box for 2 of the new batteries where the gas tank used to sit. It's all glassed in and very solid. Once everything was in place and hooked up we went for a shakedown cruise around the harbor on the 4th of July.
