I suggest you buy a 20-22 foot sailboat.  you can get them on east seaboard for $500. or less with a trailer under it.   check e-bay and boat angel.  I bought my RK 21 footer and trailer for $280,  and my Catalina 27 (no trailer)for $360.

my rk21  which weighs a ton, will cruise at near its top sailing speed, say 5-6mph on 1600 watts.  carrying my family of 7 (5kids)

I've gone near 10mile round trip (with power left to spare) on just two little wheelchair batteries, 12v @50 amp hours, sealed AGM, about $90 apiece delivered, they weigh 25lbs, are made to run down to nothing then charge back again and again..  I'm running a less than 2hp gear motor with a big 18inch prop on it.

sailboats push real easy if you don't try to go real fast. you compute the theoretical hul speed and go for 80% of that, thats the "sweet spot" of battery effeciency and reasonable progress.
