Two things. I figured a straight chain drive using a standard bike to a generator would be easier that a gear box to change the bike rotation to a prop rotation and a small trolling motor is an off the shelf unit.
Second I see a lot of units bike props out there and they are patented
Such as the IT Bike
Sure, you can do that. If your thought is to pedal while underway, you would be better off connecting your propeller (or paddle wheel) directly to your pedals. That way, you lose nothing converting the mechanical power to electrical and then back again. However, you could use pedal power to charge batteries which are later used to drive a small electric drive. You could get your exercise in the morning and then go for a relaxing ride later.

Subject: [Electric Boats] Just a thought
When I was preteen and that was over 60 years ago, used to go to Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
In the lower levels they had bike frames set up driving a generator and the idea was to pedal enough to light a bank of bulbs
Well bikes have improved with gears and the like and generators are probably lighter and more efficient so the question
Could you get a setup to generate enough power to run a small electric drive ?
