The old prop was an autoprop (and an old one at that). In fact, it dropped a blade when he was crossing the banks in the Bahamas! The second prop is a fixed 3 blade. The difference between the self pitching and the fixed blade is what made the difference, and the fact that the autoprop was most likely not functioning as well due to it's age.
