Yep that's my setup. Just two large 2AWG cables from the motor back to the controller box. I'm curious what happens if you lose one or more of the positioning signals in the phase controlled motors? Can you still operate ok?

Hi Mike,
Since your ASMO system uses a brushed DC motor, the controller doesn't need any feedback from the motor like the brushless motors, BLDC, PMAC or ACIM. Brushed motors mechanically control the current to the appropriate windings.
If the motor only has big power cables attached to it, then the controller needs no feedback. If there are a couple of small wires running between the motor and the controller too, those handle the positioning info that the controller needs to run the motor.
