Re: [electricboats] Electric Motor for 40' Sailboat

More kudos for Thunderstruck here too.

I converted my 26' wooden boat www.evalbum.com/492 in the Spring of 2003.

By Summer 2003, I was watching motorcycle conversions drag racing at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon.

The motorcycles were being driven by the Thunderstruck Motors folks who had recently started selling EV components.

The motorcycles were being driven by Briggs and Stratton ETEK brush DC motors.

I was fascinated as these motors were 1/3 the weight of the 60# motor I had been using on my boat.

I spoke to them at that time describing that my boat was being driven by an ADC motor from a Tropica EV.

Quickly I learned that the shaft size and hole pattern for the ETEK motor was the same as my ADC motor.

Soon after, I ordered an ETEK motor from Thunderstruck and 2 extra brush sets.

After more than 20 years running my boat with this motor and going thru the brush sets, I was almost to the point of needing to buy a new motor when, checking the Thunderstruck website I found that they were stocking original size ETEK brush sets!  Those brush sets hadn't been available for maybe 15 years or more!

So my same ETEK motor is still kicking after 22 years now.

Most recently I picked up a used Chademo inlet for adding fast charge to my 2011 THINK.  Check out Thunderstruck's Garage Sale pages for resale items including batteries, motors, connectors…some great deals.

Needless to say, I highly recommend Thunderstruck.
