Re: [electricboats] Trolling Motor Propellers

Collected some static test data today on a Newport Vessels NV86 - 24 volt, 48 amp rated trolling motor.  I mounted it to a dock and used the stock propeller to document typical current usage measurements as delivered from the factory.  This will establish a baseline for a higher pitched propeller on a much lighter and more efficient hull to prevent overloading the motor.  Voltage varied in the 24 volt range with a minimum measured at 24.1 volts.  The motor was pointed into and away from the mild water current, and the maximum delta was 0.8 amps on any given speed rating.  The average amperes for three runs on each speed setting are as follows:
F1 - 18.9A
F2 - 21.1A
F3 - 25.6A
F4 - 27.1A
F5 - 33.1A
R1 - 16.6A
R2 - 22.2A
R3 - 24.2A
The maximum current draw seems low, perhaps that will increase significantly as the battery voltage decays.
