RE: [Electric Boats] Group will bepractically closed by yahoo in very few days

 

Myles my NW electric buddy,
I would consider sending a paypal of $50 if, 1. I did not have to join any social media group, 2. It was fairly simple like an email to send/ receive to/from, and 3. If it was not a continual "beg-for-money" site like some.

And if it is of any value at all, I have appreciated you as moderator all these years.  I did not pipe up with your contact info in the first place, because I was nor sure how much of this was "fake news" as he seem to be inundated with these days.

On a personal update/note, My eTug project (not its actual name) progresses somewhat slower in the wiring phase as I am trying to get a new home built at the same time. 

By all means, please post a notice in bold, double-high print, several days before closure/transference.

I've been the main moderator here now on the Yahoo Electric Boats forum for something like 14 years now…?

I understand the situation we face.

I have 3 forums at Yahoo, 2 of which I started and one (this one) that was handed over to me.

Yes, the Groups.IO option is a sweet one---I have long been a member of one group there that migrated from Yahoo years ago.  As I understand, the entire group contents can be migrated to Groups.IO, but only after paying a premium to do so----that was something like $125 but in the past week Groups.IO has supposedly bumped that up to $250 or so to transfer the data.

I am not inclined to pay that sum to migrate either of the 2 forums that I started.  This forum is different, has 10x the members of ElectricBoating on Yahoo and all that.  And yet, I don't see it a $250 value proposition for me to migrate even the data from this forum.

 

Jeff, since you started the new Electric Boats forum on Groups.IO, you could step up to that plate and make this happen (if I make you moderator of this forum).  Any thoughts on this?

I started a group on Groups.io called electric boats.

 

I do not think I would have the time to run it in the long term, but I thought it was best to get it done for now so that it is an option for everyone if the Yahoo Groups becomes a problem after the transition.
