The throttle setup provided by Electroprop is great. They use a spring-loaded centre detente for neutral.
Throttle all the way forward is full power forward.
Throttle all the way to the rear is full power reverse.
In the middle, a sleeve on the throttle shaft falls into a hole and stops throttle travel. You need to lift the sleeve to move the throttle out of neutral.
This setup works really well for my boat and to have to do it over, I would definitely do something similar.

I have a separate switch that turns off the controller. Once it's off the position of the throttle no longer as any affect. Also a very visible 'E-stop' button that like wise cuts power (by disconnecting the main power contactor coil so every thing in the motor control chain gets disconnected from the battery supply).Bill,Quick question on your throttle control setup. Using a Morse throttle cable to control the Sevcon throttle; how do you achieve a throttle "lock" in neutral to prevent the electric motor from powering up if someone accidentally bumps the throttle lever, or a line should snag on it and power it up? That would be a serious concern for me.
