I have a Kelly PM controller with that option. The main issue with it is
it will not go into reverse while the shaft is still turning at any
speed, so you can't 'throw it into reverse' to use as a brake. Have they
'fixed' that ?
I tried to point this out to them, but I couldn't get them to understand
the problem.
I personally do not find this too serious as back when I learned to
operate this boat it had no reverse gear (direct drive, two stroke , 2
cylinder petrol). You could make it go backwards - by starting the motor
backwards. (A two stroke will work in both directions!), but slowing
your engine down, shorting the magneto, changing it's angle by 15
degrees and releasing the shorting strap at exactly just the right time
to get it to reverse rotation, took a bit of time...
