[Electric Boats] People were asking about DC vs AC motor power characteristics

Here are two links of performance graphs

The main difference is the ac motor vs dc motor performance graphs are the AC motor has a torque constant which appears variable, as it is not only dependent on current and it is more efficient in the first 50% of the rpm range ranging from 90-mid 80% vs 2-50% for DC and in the high speed half of its rev range efficiency fall away continuously – whereas in the DC motor it peaks around 85-90% of rpm

The ac induction motor can be run at very high efficiency in “cruising mode” with high torque output – this is not possible with a DC motor where in the first  50% of rpm torque can be high, with the cost of high amps and low efficiency.

THE AC induction motor has very few wearing parts - no brushes - and is very good for  regen.

The graphs here are reversed for ac and dc motor – this simply reflects assumptions about the type of dyno used. The AC motor graphs the revs rise from left to right (normal direction), for the Magni PMDC motor the rpm reads  right to left in the DC and
