I think there was an article with a boat about this big in Yachting magazine
recently. The guy had taken two 250 hp diesels out, put one 250 hp diesel
in with two electric motors. He reported about a 40% decrease in fuel burn
for the same speeds. Probably cause it's a little lighter and better
propping.

Arby, How are you doing with your skipjack? I am looking at a twin engine
38' Marine Trader with only one good engine! is it feasible to install an
electric and motor effectively with one diesel and one electric? Does any
know if this has been done before? What about removing both engines and
powering the electrics with the diesel genset? Is this less efficient then
straight diesel motoring? This is a very heavy boat and will do about 8knts
cruise speed with the diesels consuming 3-4 gallons of f/hr
