I recently reviewed my sea trial data for Sunshine, a 12m, 23,000# cat using twin ME1302 10kW water-cooled PMAC motors from Thunderstruck with a 3:1 reduction.
if you are OK wire a cruising speed of 5 knots, I feel you could get that using a single 10kW motor - I am able to get 5 knots using 3,6kW per motor - 7.2kW total. If you used 7.4kW you’d get 2,200 RPM from a single. You can do the math to see what ROM your prop currently turns at 5 knots to figure the necessary reduction. At full power you’d have an extra 200 RPM based on my sea trial - this May yield up to an additional 1/2 knot if faced with head currants for a short period of time.
this way you can keep your battery at 48v which makes life a lot simpler.
