Thanks so much for the feedback! I found the Alberg 30 on 'sailboatdata.com' and see that, like the Tartan 27-2 mentioned in another post, your boat is a pretty good comparable to my CD27, particularly since they were designed by the same architect! Although, like the Tartan, your boat has a bit longer LWL. Your Alberg also has a bit deeper draft and ~1,500 # more displacement, so I wouldn't expect to do worse with a similar setup.
Thunderstruck recommends their 10Kw motor for over 6,000# D, but I've been thinking that the smaller one, at 5Kw, might do just fine if my desired top speed is only ~4.0 to 4.5 knots.
Your experience seems to support that view.
Given that drag increases geometrically, I don't see how one could get a reasonably useful run-time out of 100 or so Amp Hrs. of capacity at speeds higher than 3 to 4 knots.
With 3:1 reduction ratio, is it correct to surmise that your shaft/prop speed must be in the 900 to 1,100 RPM range?
