Re: [Electric Boats] How Efficient is a BLDC/PMAC Motor, Used as a Generator?

Nothing crazy about it you just listed Integrel's business model, which I think will make them a fortune:

They look to have nailed the controller side of things.  I am curious what the total selling price is for there product, and compared that to what you eventually clobb together.

Keep us posted.

Thinking about coupling a large Motenergy motor with controller, to a small diesel such as a Beta 10, for use as a genset. What sort of efficiency might I see from that, compared to a turnkey genset system? What I want is to know if this would work fully utilize the power of a small diesel running with about 90% load and RPM, by charging batteries with any excess power generated, and shutting it down when batteries are full. This way I can motor nice and slow while still keeping diesel operation at a level that promotes long life and greatest efficiency. A bigger generator would take over when full power is needed at the prop for long periods. I know this sounds crazy complicated, but one thing at a time. Anybody have any ideas on the efficiency of a PMAC motor in regen mode, vs a conventional generator or alternator?
