Re: [Electric Boats] Battery replacement

Hi Chris. It is common shopping online in China for sellers to state they are the factory but they are only really on sellers. I used google earth to check a seller of BYD batteries who assured me they were the factory and found it was a office building in Hong Kong. I shopped around because the EV suppliers here in Australia mainly sell Calb & Winston batteries. The size format available did not suit and I have heard of many complaints of delayed delivery times because the suppliers actually do not have the cells in stock and have to order them from China to complete your order. The Himax batteries direct were also a lot cheaper in price. I was put onto the Himax batteries by a DIY electric car group who have been ordering them in group buys. They have only been using them for a relatively short period but to date the consensus is that they are OK. The DIY car group also prefer the smaller format as they can place them under rear seats and all sorts of odd places in a DIY electric car. As I said my experience with Himax was good. You can specify terminal size and specifics at the time of order. They do not appear to carry stock and did a production run for my batteries. It took 5 weeks from time of order to delivery via sea freight. I could have had them air freighted if I needed them quicker. Communications and technical support has been excellent, they even assisted with my customs clearance when landed here in Australia. Unfortunately it is a gamble as the long term performance of these batteries is yet to be determined. I attached the data sheet with test results for the more knowledgeable to review. But again it can only be taken at face value as test results could be fictitious.

Michael,
Thanks for the post about your cells. Oddly enough I just ran across this cell while shopping online last night. I found it 2 different places with 2 different part numbers with both claiming to be a manufacturer. I've spent a lot of time on Alibaba shopping for cells and have found it's very hard to know what is good, what is bad and who actually makes the cell. From the spec sheet you posted it appears that Himax is the manufacturer of the cells. Also, Many cells look very similar in size, terminal style etc. I wish I could find a list somewhere of all manufactures and the cells they make. Maybe even a rating of each cell as far as quality.

Chris
