The treadmill motors are good value especially freebies. Is 120 volts at 18 amps safe to work on, 72 volts scares me. The pulley reduction system can't be beat as it will allow you to change ratio's fairly easily. I did look at timing belts for reduction and it seems their may be some advantages and efficiencies over normal vee belts. But the cost is higher and belts and pulleys are harder to source.
