Hey Eric-
Hopefully we'll hear some number quotes from others, but in the meantime as mentioned earlier by others, the surplus EV car lithium battery seems to have been the best bargain in the past 2-3 years and probably continues to be. Folks are adapting Tesla modules, a couple of us are using ex-THINK City EV Enerdel modules and I've heard of Nissan and Volt surplus batteries being repurposed. Assuming they're still available, a surplus 3kwh THINK Enerdel module can be purchased for about $600, or 20cents/wh. Entire 23-24kwh THINK packs, if still available, can probably be had for a around $4.5k including battery cables, contactors, remote lithium energy controller BMS boards, etc. I've been using these for the past 3 years or so now. I'm just now getting some experience with cell management of the 240 cell pairs on my boat. The Enerdel modules use stacks of prismatic pouch batteries (much like Kokam cells) which are well secured & protected in a metal case in the THINK modules. Anyway, it looks like the other surplus options are similarly low cost, at least when one doesn't bother considering BMS. I have a home-built BMS controller now that can manage the cells in my pack and controls my battery charger. So far, so good…no going back to lead for me.

Subject: [Electric Boats] End user price on LiFePO4 cells?
Over the years, there have been multiple posts in this group about how the cost of Lithium batteries for our conversions will go down over time. I've been following the prices for 8 years now and haven't observed any reduction in price for LiFePO4 prismatic cells. Additionally, availability of these cells in the US seems to be getting worse, not better, over time.
What is a fair price today for 1kWh of LiFePo4 prismatic cells, in quantities less than 10 units? less than 50 units?
I'm just curious.
Fair winds and smooth seas,
