RE: [Electric Boats] Solar Catamaran Project

 

They are a bit scary, for sure.  I used an AIR403 on my boat for awhile.  One afternoon, motoring back upstream on the Columbia River from St. Helens I put the wind generator up as there was some 10kt+ winds blowing upstream.  I don't recall any vibration issue, but definitely the whirring and the thought of the 3 blades whirring above my head was a bit intimidating at first.  But it was pretty neat---besides the probably 50 watts of power we got from the wind/genset, the 'push' from the drag probably helped get us upstream also.  None of that compares though to just deploying a spinnaker…

my experience with wind generators is that they tend to be noisy and vibrate, and really don't deliver all that much power. they can be scary too with that prop whipping around. however you may have a better idea. best of luck.
