Has anyone built a set of electrically-powered side-mount paddle wheel drives, or have any leads on such a system?
The objective is to create a very manoeuvrable ('skid-steer') system for a small workboat (possibly about 7 tonnes, 10 metres by 3 metres) to operate in heavily weeded waters and close quarters (harbours, canals, along shorelines). Working operating speeds not to exceed 3 knots.
Conventional props in these operating conditions foul in seconds.
Will work on battery storage system separately - want at least 10 hours work time on a charge.
Expect we are looking for something with maximum 48-volt system so we don't run into permitting issues if vessel ends up being exported.
I have a solid lead on an electric stern-drive paddle-wheeler system. Ironically, after a wide search, the designer now lives about 30 km away from me.
Thanks in advance,
Darryl
