Weeki Wachee State Park, Florida, had electric 'jungle cruises' going up/down a 3 ft deep, 2 mph river. Then the state switched to new boats with 60 hp (I think) outboards. I asked why the electrics were replaced and the answer I was told, was that the electrics took too long to bring to a stop (by reversing), so that if a kayak crossed the bow, the electric boat could not be stopped safely in time. It was a liability issue. So, consider not only currents, but also speed bumps (kayaks).
