I use a Minnkota Endura 50 drawing 42 amps (full speed) from two
Interstate 225 amp hour lead acid 6 volt batteries to drive my 16'
sailing skiff to 4 mph for 3 hours. Of course, longer times at lower
speeds. This is beyond a doubt the least expensive system you can get.
The motor was on sale for $120 and the batteries for $80 each. It is
also "portable" and requires no modification to the boat.
