[Electric Boats] Flooded Cell Specific Gravity Measurement Question.

I have only ever checked SG with a hydrometer when the batteries have rested at least 6 hours. Does anyone else do differently? Is it okay(ish) to check SG while they are in use, with a normal or light load? I am thinking not, because of course you don't rely on open circuit voltage for determining SOC unless the batteries have been at rest for several hours, but it just occurred to me that I don't really know for certain. Am I overthinking this? I don't have time to experiment at the moment.
