I am still in the construction stage of a 36ft steel sailboat. have been following this group for several years now just can't get the idea out of my head that there is a way to make it and be economical both on installation and running. The hard part for me to understand it the cost of a package verses the cost of parts, But also finding the right parts. when I look at the lower cost 10kw $2800 http://www.electricmotorsport.com/store/ems_ev_parts_kits_pmac_ds-gen4-72-350.php I think I could do that plus the batteries but then I think will this motor really work is it going to be able to handle the long haul if needed. Yes I could have a spare.
I then look at Bianca's thoosa 9000 and it works great, now they have the 12000 perfect size maybe. I then get sticker shock and it comes without batteries.
I Like the propulsion marine with the gear box the best but I am not sure the new 10 kw motor is big enough. The Electric yacht system looks good but it is just about the same physical size as the diesel I bought used when I had a weak moment.
Anyways I am sure there are a lot of people on this group that are fighting the same types of issues.
I live in Alaska and want to sail south to warmer water for the winters Hawaii and doldrums come to mind not a bad thing but one has to move on.
