This is exactly the question I've been meaning to ask. I can put an ammeter on the motor leads to tell how much juice the motor is taking but really that's not even what I'm interested in. I want to know the net juice flowing into and out of the battery bank and a 'fuel gauge' type reading of how much energy is in the bank.
One benefit of such a system that occurred to me is when underway with the battery bank full, I can balance the output of the solar panels and the motor turning slowly over and get a little boost from the solar power that otherwise would be going to waste. I know even with a few hundred watts of solar it wouldn't be much but it could help.
I was going to order the PakTrackr but now I'll wait to see what the group has to say.

What is everyone using to measure their run time or capacity left on the battery bank. I am familiar with the PakTrakr but are their any others for a 48v system?
