Re: [Electric Boats] Electric 79 Larson 26 footer

As desulfator said, drawing down two batteries equally would be better.

You don't have to disconnect the batteries to charge them.

Search the site for "Kipawa"  you will find some data, some plus, some minus IIRC.    Depends alot on the boat, which people usually don't factor in when they evaluate the prop.

Get yourself a handful of different size APC model airplane props to try on your electric motors - they are only about $3.00 each.  You will have to bore them out a bit to fit the motor shaft and dremel a shear pin slot but they come in many combinations of dia and pitch.  You will need an ammeter to measure motor current consumption.  The prop you use should create more than the amp draw the motor with stock prop pulls while tied to the dock.

Since the motors/stock props were designed to push a boat like yours you may not be able to do much better than the stock prop.

Thanks Denny.
I have a 15 amp charger (Guest) that will charge two banks of 12 volt batteries. I plan to put a switch in the series connection between the two banks and charge all four together or possibly use two chargers. I do have a question about disconnecting the banks. Is it necessary to put the switch in or can I just connect the two chargers to each parallel bank leaving the series connection in place?
As far as the unequal charging is concerned I could connect the 12 volt ground to one parallel bank and that way draw those two batteries down equally.
If I get 4mph I'll be happy.
There is a company, Kipawa, that sells performance props for Minn Kota, anybody recommend them?

Thanks again for the feed back.
