[Electric Boats] Re: AGM batteries

Yes I do it all the time with custom built desulfators.

I have a few cars that are rarely run. Sometimes it has been a year or so since they have been started. Normally a Mini-CIP pulser with bring a stone dead battery up in about 3 days.

I use the same pulser on my garden tractor battery which is now over 10 years old. Normally the tractor batts only last a year or two.

AGM batts have a lower track record for recovery if they have been kept on a trickle charger or charged with a flooded cell battery charger.

If there is/has been evidence of a white powdery residue near the vents/cell caps, it is a sign of severe cell dehydration. Normally this is caused by leaking cell pressure relief valves. It is one of the reasons why I do not use AGM batts in any application.

In these cases the cells have to be opened up and new electrolyte injected into the cells to rehydrate them, prior to pulse conditioning.
