Nice! I converted my Ericson 29 with a thunderstruck 2:1 gear reduction. Good Idea with the chevy volt batteries, I used agms.
I got a lot more power when I switched the prop from the stock atomic 4 prop to a campel sailor prop that's calibrated for a 2:1 ratio.
Maybe throw some solar onto the bank through an mppt controller to keep the batteries topped off, but it sounds like you're on a dock with shore power.
